The Special Security Office (SSO) Security Specialist Level I supports day-to-day Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) security operations, including SCIF access control, visitor screening, SCI indoctrination and debriefing support, classified material handling, records maintenance, courier support, and assistance with annual SCI training tracking. This role helps ensure SCI and collateral classified information is properly received, safeguarded, transmitted, stored, and destroyed in accordance with established security procedures. The ideal candidate has foundational SSO experience, knowledge of SCI access processes and SCIF operations, strong communication and customer service skills, and the ability to support secure, accurate, and compliant mission operations.
Duties and Responsibilties
• Screen visitors and control access to all SCIFs using local databases, Defense Information System for Security (DISS), and Scattered Castles.
• Coordinate meetings and conferences held within SCIFs.
• Conduct required SCIF inspections, response tests, and Intrusion Detection System checks.
• Prepare, maintain, and update Fixed Facility Checklists (FFC) and TEMPEST Addendums for each DTRA SCIF.
• Conduct SCI indoctrinations, debriefings, and Personnel Security prescreen interviews within established timelines.
• Process SCI permanent certifications, both inbound and outbound, within established timelines.
• Assist with management of the contractor SCI nomination program for the SSO.
• Track completion rates for required annual SCI refresher training.
• Maintain Crypto-cleared personnel records and adhere to applicable COMSEC regulations and guidelines.
• Conduct classification marking reviews of all material leaving the SCIF and provide guidance on the marking of SCI material.
• Administer the receipt, control, and accountability of SCI material.
• Enter approved equipment introduced into a SCIF into the equipment log.
• Ensure equipment removed from a SCIF has been properly sanitized and approved by the SSO Information Assurance Manager (IAM).
• Maintain the Support Program Communication Security (COMSEC) account by ensuring accountability of Crypto material, keys, and key-loading equipment, as applicable.
• Support the receipt, staging, transport, storage, safeguarding, installation, initialization, and operation of Cryptographically Controlled Items (CCI), COMSEC equipment, and associated Key Material (KEYMAT), including Secure Telephone Equipment (STE).
• Support Program COMSEC account activities and ensure accountability of Crypto material, keys, and key-loading equipment.
• Develop, modify, and maintain the SSO Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) and Emergency Action Plan (EAP), as needed.
• Submit weekly and monthly roll-up work accountability reports.
• Provide administrative data entry, file and record maintenance, internal mail distribution, and Defense Courier Service (DCS) package pickup.
• Issue courier cards, conduct courier briefings, and prepare commercial airline authorization letters.
• Assist with management of the foreign travel reporting program for the SSO.
